Too many vacations force you to choose between hanging out in your hotel room or driving somewhere for an activity. With green lawns and covered porches, our cottages invite you to have fun right where you are. You can keep the party going after the parks have closed or simply never leave at all.
We think the best vacation games have a few simple ingredients: they’re easy to set-up and put away, are as interactive as they are competitive, and let you enjoy a literal breath of fresh air. Put down your devices, leave your keys on the kitchen counter, and just play.
Test your skills
How’s your eye-hand coordination? Find out as you tap into the backyard spirt with a classic cornhole set. Got steady hands? Prove it with giant wooden tumble tower blocks. Or is precision your thing? Fling a frisbee through the narrow opening of a Kan Jam set. (Don’t have a set on hand? Make your own with buckets!) Or test your reflexes with the hot new ball-and-trampoline game Spikeball. (Trust us: if you haven’t gotten hooked yet, you will!)
Make old games new again
After you pull yourself away from our pools and lagoon, don’t leave the toys behind. You can transform your pool noodles into circles for ring toss and obstacle courses (or extend them as javelins for throwing) by adding simple can koozies as connectors. Think spin the bat is too easy? Increase the challenge: once players dizzily drop the bat, see who can carry an egg or a ping pong ball on a spoon the furthest without it falling off. Or ramp up the degree of difficulty involved with jump-rope by adding a little target practice: toss water balloons or dodgeballs at the jumper. If they don’t break their rhythm, players swap out, and the thrower becomes the target.
Twist and Turn
Take “laid-back” to a new high—or, more accurately, a new low—with a round of limbo, letting our cushy green lawns break your fall. Put a fresh spin on Twister, making the familiar indoor party game a messy outdoor blast by adding colored shaving cream to the mat. And cool off after a hot day with a game sure to keep players squirming and spectators laughing: a frozen t-shirt race. Soak t-shirts, pop them in your freezer overnight, and then see who can unfurl and don their shirt the fastest.
Pull up an Adirondack Chair
All the world’s your stage when you gather on your veranda for game of outdoor charades. (Your neighbors might even be tempted to call out the answers.) Play cards, the old school way—Texas Hold ‘Em, Rummy, and are great for a crowd—or in 21st-century style with the adults-only Cards Against Humanity. (Just make sure the kids are asleep!) Or see just how well your family knows you with a game of Two Truths and a Lie, in which you tell three details about yourself, and your loved ones have to figure out which one you made up.
The best thing about the games you play at home in Margaritaville? You never need a wristband to play again tomorrow.
